Known As Pittsburgh's "Lady Of The Blues," Miss Freddye is a Blues sensation. Her talent and love for the genre has enabled her to forge an incredible career filled with historical collaborations, groundbreaking awards and recognition and amazing releases. Her journey began in church where her influences and introduction to music first began.
Forming a range of bands over the course of her career, Miss Freddye takes influence from legendary artists such as Koko Taylor, Etta James, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Big Mama Thornton, Bessie Smith, and "Big" Al Leavitt.
Her classic single "Lady Of The Blues"says it all, her presence is uniquely and instantly recognisable. A voice that of velvet with great strength. Miss Freddye possesses undeniable talent. The song in it's self is an empowering number, accompanied with beautiful instrumentals including electric keys and trumpets. The line "Your cold heart makes me blue" being a standout line. The lyrics themselves also fit very well.
Her work has also crossed over into charity where has supported the likes of
Relay for Life American Cancer Society, Pink Day in Leechburg, PA for Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Sean Carney's Blues For A Cure, Local VFWs and American Legions, Toys for tots, homeless veterans, Band Together Pittsburgh, and Sing to Stop domestic violence.
In regards to industry recognition, she has won 2008 West Virginia Blues Society for Best Blues and 2012 Blues Society Of Western PA Best Duo/Solo Act.
In 2014, Miss Freddye was awarded the Star Award from the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center for her work with veterans. She was awarded the 2015 Freedom From Silence Award from the Center For Victims. Miss Freddye has also won in the Iron City Rocks Awards for Best Blues Band in 2016, 2017, and 2019. Her self-released CD, "Lady Of The Blues" won for Best Album in 2017. Miss Freddye has also been busy on the live scene with virtual shows already lined up in May.
Her latest new single, “Wade In The Water” is from her forthcoming gospel album, scheduled for 2021 release. The song is a smooth opener with the luscious tones of Miss Freddye being accompanied by Jazz chords and some elegantly placed backing vocals and layered harmonies. Simple but magnificently effective. The song will without a doubt be one of the lead entries on the album and something her fans and followers will love.
