Today we sat down with the enigmatic Andrew De la Foix. He spoke to us on a number of subjects from his early life and his career into music.
1. Where are you from?
I’m originally from Rome, Italy, but my artistic journey has been shaped by influences from all over the world. Growing up in such a historic and vibrant city gave me a strong appreciation for culture and creativity, which naturally found its way into my music.
2. What was growing up like for you?
Growing up was a mix of contrasts: tradition and modernity, chaos and harmony. My family was always supportive, but I also learned the value of hard work and resilience early on. Music was always a big part of my life, whether it was through family gatherings or exploring different genres on my own.
3. Was music around, any challenges you faced?
Music was always around me. My parents had a great vinyl collection, and I’d spend hours listening to jazz, soul, and disco records. However, getting into music professionally wasn’t easy. Balancing my studies in economics with my passion for music meant a lot of late nights and sacrifices, but it taught me discipline and focus.
4. How did you get into music?
Music has always been my escape and my way of expressing myself. I started experimenting with production in my teens, but it wasn’t until later that I decided to take it seriously. My first break came when I released some tracks through Groove Culture and other labels, which gave me the confidence to pursue music full-time.
5. Who are your biggest musical inspirations?
My biggest inspirations are a blend of icons and personal heroes. Artists like Quincy Jones, Nile Rodgers, and Jamiroquai have always been at the top of my list for their incredible ability to merge genres and create timeless grooves. At the same time, I’m inspired by the energy of modern house producers and the emotion of classic soul and disco legends. These influences, along with my love for storytelling through sound, are what shaped my approach to reimagining Ride Like the Wind. It’s my way of honoring the past while pushing it into the present.
